Gerakan National Youth Chairman, Dato’ Mah Siew Keong urged the government to expedite the review of the Universtiy and University College Act (UUCA) 1971.
Section 15 and 16 under UUCA should be amended to give greater freedom for students to participate in campus activities.
Getakan National Youth feeld that, the amendment of UUCA should focus on freedom of speech, freedom of association of students, authority of campus, freedom in academics, self-administration of students, efficiency of administration and the conduct of campus election.
“We have to understand that the amendment of UUCA is to give the younger generation a more important tole to play in building up the country together. The university students are mature and let them feel to be responsible on their speech and action. Let us give students, our Anak Malaysia a freedom space of expression!”
Gerakan National Youth also seek the cooperation from university’s administration to adopt more open and liberal attitude to allow and support students and student’s association to organise more multicultural programme as a integration path towards nation building.
